Erika developed a keen interest in human resources while completing her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology before commencing her legal career.

Since that time, she has taken on increasingly demanding roles, progressing from an associate at a large law firm to senior counsel in the legal department of a large public company and later to a cross-platform functional leader. She also serves as a member of the Human Rights Tribunal of Alberta, conducting mediations and adjudicating disputes.

Over more than 20 years, Erika has built a comprehensive human resources skillset through education, practising law, and leadership. She brings deep knowledge of employment law, including employment standards, IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility), human rights, the Canada Labour Code, privacy, and labour, to organizations of all sizes and across industries through her practical experience working as an integral part of business.

Selected Experience

  • Manager, HR Governance of a multinational energy company with over 10,000 employees responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing an HR governance framework of processes, policies, and programs designed to effect corporate standards of conduct and ethics, business goals and legal requirements.
  • Oversaw revision of harassment and privacy investigation processes, procedures and policies for sustained consistency, efficiency and reduction of legal exposure.
  • Head of Steering Committee providing strategic direction and negotiating advice aligned with corporate values and needs for successful bargaining of two contentious collective bargaining agreements during a major acquisition for multinational energy company.
  • Provided advice on alcohol and drug use and testing policy changes in light of cannabis legalization.
  • Delivered policies, presentations and training regarding Diversity & Inclusion, Harassment & Violence, Cultural Awareness, Gender Identity, and fundamental employment law principles to varied organizations, including recently to a large federally-regulated organization.
  • Has occupied board positions or engaged in volunteer activities for the Girl Guides of Canada, the Real Estate Council of Alberta and other organizations, charities and community groups.
